Dr. Douglas W. Jacobs-Perkins is a Staff Scientist, and has been the Chief Safety Officer at the University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) since 2008. As Chief Safety Officer, Dr. Jacobs-Perkins is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment at LLE by ensuring that proper training, guidance, and oversight is provided for all persons and work areas.

Dr. Jacobs-Perkins received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He worked in industry as a product design and test engineer for ten years before returning to the University of Rochester to obtain his Ph.D. in electrical engineering (Ultrafast Optoelectronic Imaging). He joined LLE in 1998, and served as the Engineering Division Director from 2008–2014.

His contributions at LLE include control system programming, data analysis, and operational support for LLE’s cryogenic program; design architect for the Target Viewing Systems on OMEGA and OMEGA EP; and work on the 2-D SSD (smoothing by spectral dispersion) system.
